The literal meaning of Sadaqah Jariyah is ongoing or continuous charity. It is a voluntary charity that people can give on behalf of themselves or their loved ones, even those who have passed away. This type of charity is a long-term contribution that continues to benefit someone in need over years or decades.
Rewards Of Giving Sadaqah Jariyah
Sadaqah Jariyah rewards are indefinite and continue as long as the recipients benefit from it. The virtue of this deed is that the blessings continue even after the person’s death and do not cease at their passing away. The degree of reward for Sadaqah Jariyah is unlike any other charitable deed that can benefit someone momentarily.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When a person dies, all his deeds come to an end except three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge (which he has left behind), or a righteous child who will pray for him.”
(Al Tirmidhi 1376)
Another Hadith mentions,
Allah’s Messenger ﷺ said:
“Do good deeds properly, sincerely and moderately and know that your deeds will not make you enter Paradise, and that the most beloved deed to Allah is the most regular and constant even if it were little.”
(Sahih Bukhari 6464)
