Zakah is not simply an act of charity — it is an obligation. Muslims whose wealth is above the nisab are required to give 2.5% of their qualifying wealth to those entitled to receive it.
And when we give Zakah, we are not doing the poor a favour. We are fulfilling a right that Allah has placed in our wealth.
That is why, for the past few years, Al Hikma has worked with trusted charity partners to distribute cash Zakah directly to those in need.
Rather than deciding for them what they should receive, we give them ownership of the money (tamleek) — empowering individuals with the dignity to spend the money according to their own needs and priorities – be that food, shelter, clothing, education etc
